You Can’t Eat Love
🛑STOP 🛑 Only Happy Feelings Allowed In
How do you feel when someone tells you to ‘cheer up, it could be worse’?
Count it all joy.
Joy comes in the morning.
Is it just me, or do you get annoyed when you are feeling sad and someone tells you to get over it or cheer up? — Just me?
I still remember the event as if it were yesterday. A young mother was overwhelmed with emotion when someone suggested the grandmothers pose with their grandbabies.
Seems like an innocent enough request. EXCEPT, this young mother’s own mother had died just a few short years ago. Her aunts did the best they could to fill in, but, there is nothing that can replace your own mother.
The person who suggested the photo was fully aware of the situation.
Were the person unkind? No, simply getting wrapped up in the moment. Forgetting about the bigger picture.
The young mother, with her baby held tightly against her, tears pouring down her face, retreated to another room. Because I could understand each one of her tears, I followed her and was letting her know it was ok to feel so sad. I told her knew her pain.
At that moment, the person who suggested the photo, flounced into the room and told the young mother to come on and let’s take the photo — she ‘just needed to get over it’. She ‘just needed to move on’.
